Weather forecast

We had to ensure that the weather conditions were ok to film in order to get the right feel for our genre.

Sound effects

We produced a video illustrating sound effects we would use in our production but unfortunately it failed twice, therefore we have to wait to get it properly converted in order to upload it to youtube and embed it in our blog.

mean girls opening sequence

we start off with a high angle at the start when the girl is looking up at her parents and we get the impression that its a small child on her first day of school.
the african music sets up the film and makes us realize that she has been living in Africa all her life and has been home-schooled so this is her first day of starting
a proper school. i like the way that as we get into the start of the film there is a series of still shot pictures to fast track showing her as she grows up in Africa.

Group Film Title Meeting

Our Group held a meeting so that we could discuss what titles we could Possibly give Our Film. We wanted to come up with somthing relevent, clever and original. we want to have a title that will clearly establish  our genre.

Here is a short list of some titles we came up with:

  • Strange Footstep
  • Outsider
  • The Bushes Have Eyes
  • Black Noise
  • Happy Campers
  • Crunch
  • Death Tent

Se7en Opening Credits

I felt that this opening sequence is very effective as it sets the tone of the film early on establishes the genre (Thriller). The sequence is very enigmatic, as all shots used are close ups and extreme close ups of strange and chilling objects. The audience are not given too much information which is good, as it makes them more interested so they want to watch on and discover more. The rapid cuts let the audience know they are in store for a fast paced film. The sinister soundtrack playing in the background is very effective as it is parallel to what is happening on screen. The font used for the titles is very informal and looks almost handwritten. They do not fade in and out slowly conventionally but rather the text flashes quite rapidly. The white writing on a black background also strengthens the connotations of the genre.

Research - Questionaire intro

we will aim to find out about our target audience by carrying out a questionnaire. This questionnaire is designed to help us develop our opening scene to have a greater appeal to the viewers and will mean the project will be a greater success.

We will dispatch 20 questionnaires to people between the ages of 18-29. we will make the sample representative by giving 10 to males and 10 to females. With a even gender division we can create a film opening that will appeal to both sexes. Within our questionnaire we will ask the sample a number of questions. we will also ask the sample to comment on three sequences that we show them.

location ideas

Reigate Priory Park

we have chosen this location for filming as it is suitable woodland area with clearing to pitch a tent. The location is easy for the group to get to for filming and is close by to the college and everyone in the groups home.

We traveled the short distance from college to the woodland location to make sure this location woul forfill our needs. bellow are some photos from our visit.

Target audience

We decided to research the target audience of similar films to the one we are making. We chose Shrooms(2006) as the story line and genre are comparable. we went on the imdb website to view the user ratings which surprising showed that women preferred the film to men. The chart confirms that the main audience for shrooms was 18-29.

The blair witch project(1999) user rating chart showed contrasting results to shrooms as men clearly preferred the the film. The similarities with shrooms is that most voters were 18-29 although the film did have appeal the the 30-44 age range.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0185937/ratings - blair witch project

we chose the 18-28 age bracket as teens and young adults are more likely to be drawn to the horror genre as they enjoy the intrigue, mystery and twist thrillers and horrors provide. This age range is also more likely to seek the adrenaline rush that our genre offers. We also believe that males will be more interested in our film, research has shown that men enjoy the satisfaction solving thrilling mysteries.

Snatch - Ideas

After watching the snatch opening sequence we have decided to use the idea of freeze frames introducing each character as seen in the image.

Snatch opening sequence

Snatch uses a variety of ideas and techniques in its opening sequence.  As the camera pans from scene to scene it freze frames on key characters in order to introduce them.  This instantly lets the viewer ackowledge the key characters on the film and plots, such as a diamond being key in the story.  We plan to use this idea in order to introduce our characters, it is qucik and effective so will work well with the time limit we have.

synopsis
